Microsoft Office 2007 Test Version
and New License (password) Information

The College of Business and Economics Computer Placement Exam uses Microsoft Office 2007 software version.

At that time the exam will not use the TAIT license, but rather the new MyitLab license which is to be purchased at the BSU Bookstore.

The MyitLab license expires 30 days after the student logins in to set their student profile. Consequently, all portions of the exam required by your major must be completed within this 30-day time period. The maximum of 2 tries for the exam is still policy. If the student is unable to complete the 2 maximum allowable times a new license must be purchased. However, the purchase of a second MyitLab license used to take the exam a third or fourth time is not allows - those tests will not be valid.

Starting now - the Bookstore will only be selling the MyITLab Licenses

The TAIT licenses will not longer be valid after December 12, 2008. Students who try to use this system will not be able to access the COBE Computer Placement Exam. Students will need to purchase a MyITLab license to take the COBE Computer Placement Exam. Please note the MyITLab is valid for 30 days from the date the student enters their student profile.

General COBE Computer Placement Exam
Information and Policies (FAQS)

Exam is on a "walk in" basis during the hours listed above. You do not need to sign up for an appointment.

Exam is on a "computer available" basis. (It is in your best interest not to wait until the last minute to take the exam (a computer may not be available for you and it will be noisy). The microcomputer facility is VERY busy the last week of classes or the week before any semester. Avoiding this time period will be to your benefit.

The exam is administered on the BSU campus (Business Building) and the CSI campus (Twin Falls).

Your test will only be recorded if you enter your BSU student ID number in the same box as your last name on the student profile. If you forget to enter your student number in the same box as your last name you will need to contact the IT-SCM Department (itscm@boisestate.edu; 426-1181; B308) in order for your exam scores to be recorded.

Students are allowed to take the exam two times total in your academic career (not per semester), but not twice on the same day. (NOTE: the exam has 3 parts (ITM104, ITM105, ITM106) - the student must take all exam parts required for your major at one sitting.) If a student starts the exam but does not finish the entire exam (all required sections) the attempt counts as one of the two times allowed per student.

All three sections of the exam (ITM104, ITM105, ITM106) are required for the following majors - Information Technology Management, Supply Chain Management, and Accountancy. All other majors should confirm which sections are required - all business majors are at least required to take ITM104 and ITM105.

If you feel you want to review for the exam, we suggest knowing the strict definition of each topic on the topic list and how to perform each function the "MicroSoft" way. The exam must be completed using standard MicroSoft processes. The "help" function is not available during the exam. (HINT: As you answer each question complete the requested tasks in the order they are presented in the question -- if you are requested to bold and underline something -- bold first, then underline -- the program looks for the "bold" response first, if you "underline" first the system believes you are trying to "bold", not underline.)

Students must purchase a MyITLab license (password) from the BSU Bookstore in order to take the exam. (This one license is good for 30 days after you open and enter your student profile on the computer. The license will work for all three sections (ITM104, ITM105, and ITM106) of the exam - and for the student's 2nd try should the student need to use the 2nd try if the 2nd try is within the 30-day license time period.)

A student may not have taken ITM104, ITM105, or ITM106 for credit or audit in the past. The student understands this would nullify any test results.

If a student is currently enrolled in ITM104, ITM105, and/or ITM106 and successfully completed the COBE Computer Placement Exam the student must drop the class. If dropped after the "drop without a W" deadline for the class session, the student will receive a "W" on their transcript. If the student does not drop the class the student will receive a grade of "F" for the class - even if they pass the exam.

Each exam section is timed - 40 minutes per section. Time is monitored by the computer.

Successful score is 70% or above on each section required.

If you have conditionally registered for a class, you MUST clear that registration with a permission number - the System never automatically clears your conditional registration for you.

If you want to request your COBE Computer Placement exam scores recorded into the student database within a 24-hour period, leave the following information for the B308 office staff -- either in person or e-mail to itscm@boisestate.edu:

  • student name
  • student number
  • which sections of the exam passed.

Exam scores are entered into the student database in batch reports. This exam does not show up on the student transcript, as it is a placement exam, not a class/credit exam.

You may request your test scores at the end of each section exam. You may print your exam results should you want to do so.
